Poetry Prompt — Day 5
why do you consider self-love selfish?
please know I am not a narcissist
to love myself is to know myself
to eliminate fear, guilt, and anguish
to live the life that was meant to be
filled with peace and abundance
to recognize the light that dwells within
spreading it lovingly with no reluctance
as complicated as it might be
I’m certain this is the right path for me
self-love is the fuel for my soul
to fulfill its destiny.
I have to be honest, I did not intend to write this poem about self-love, but I completed a piece for another publication, and the topic was still floating around in my head and heart space. So, I decided to submit this as an entry for Sahil Patel’s emotions are complicated prompt.
Although I believe love is effortless and the purest emotion, I also believe it to be complicated. I believe love should be authentic and we should practice loving ourselves in order to truly love someone else.
