Healing from the Pain
Poetry Prompt — Day 7
--
I blamed me for the choices I made
that caused so much hurt and pain
I blamed you for leaving me
when I needed you in my lane
I blamed me for not seeing the sunsets
when they were present every day
I blamed you for watching the sunsets
while my soul felt such dismay
I blamed me for not being open
and honest with what I desired
I blamed you for not being open
and honest with what you desired
I forgive me for all the pain
that festered in my heart
I forgive you for all the hurt
that you caused from the very start
I forgive us entirely for all
the mistakes that were unexplained
for only in forgiveness,
can we heal from all this pain.
Writing this poem triggered some old memories of a past relationship. It took me a while to let go of all the hurt and pain that it caused. I believe in order to heal, we must forgive those who have caused us pain. Furthermore, I have discovered that we also need to forgive ourselves.
Forgiveness is the pathway to love and healing, therefore I choose to forgive myself and detach from all that hurt and pain. After all, this is the only way to grow and discover who we are or who we ought to become in this life — beautifully flawed humans.
Sahil Patel issued the day 7 prompt for his poetry challenge in which he would like us to: Write a poem about a pain that you went through and which heal you. In his piece below, he states:
Pain is not weakness. Pain is strength because the pain comes with healing.
