John, this is a heavy and realistic poem.

…ese verities of the past are now challenged on all fronts
Our collective confidence has been broken
The darkness always close to the surface of our society
Now is unmasked for all to see
Anger-hatred-mistrust on full display
And unashamedly so
Refusal to respect differences of opinions and beliefs
Placing labels on people and their ideas
Woke -cancel culture-socialists
Fascists-racists-religious fanatics
These appellations depersonalize opponents
Make it easier to attack them physically as well as verbally

John, this is a heavy and realistic poem. We are living in some dark times, and like you, I hope the next generations don't continue to suffer from these atrocities that we are living today. Love this piece.
