This just reminded me that my mom never takes the trash out. Well, she probably did it once when my dad was away for more than a week and I think he arranged for someone to drag the cans to and from the curb for her. So sorry that you were faced with such a traumatic experience doing a mundane task. My thought can only go to trying to find the lesson in this situation...
